A women-only driving school is exactly what it sounds like: female instructors teaching women. At Easy L, every lesson is with a woman instructor in an automatic car, and we pick you up across southside Brisbane and the Logan area.
Plenty of people learn to drive with whoever is closest or cheapest. But for a lot of women, who sits in the passenger seat makes a real difference to how quickly they relax, how many questions they ask and how much they enjoy learning. Here's what learning with a women-only school involves and who tends to choose it.
Who chooses a female driving instructor?
There's no single type of learner. The women we teach include:
- Teenagers on their learner licence whose families would rather they learn with a woman.
- Adult women learning for the first time, often after years of relying on family, friends or public transport.
- Nervous drivers who've had a bad experience in the car and want a calm, patient instructor.
- Women whose culture or faith means they prefer not to be alone in a car with a man they don't know.
- Licence holders who want a refresher after a break from driving, a move to Brisbane or a change of car.
Whatever the reason, you don't need to explain it. Choosing a female instructor is a normal, reasonable preference.
What a lesson with Easy L looks like
We come to you, so your lesson can start from home, work, school or uni. A standard lesson is 60 minutes and a long lesson is 120 minutes. Our instructors have more than 20 years' experience teaching in automatic cars, and lessons are planned around what you need next, whether that's your very first time behind the wheel, roundabouts and lane changes, or getting test ready.
We teach in an automatic car only. That means you can focus on steering, observation and decision-making instead of clutch control, which suits most new drivers. You can read more about what that means for your licence in our guide to getting an automatic licence in Queensland.
Why a calm car matters when you're learning
Learning to drive is a skill, and skills come faster when you're comfortable. If you're tense, you're more likely to grip the wheel, miss a mirror check or freeze at an intersection. When you trust the person beside you, you ask more questions, try the manoeuvre again and tell them honestly when something feels hard.
That's the heart of what we do: a patient, supportive car where you can make mistakes safely and keep improving. If nerves are holding you back, our article on tips for nervous learner drivers is a good place to start.
What we teach
- Learn to drive: from the basics of moving off and stopping through to busy roads and highways.
- Defensive driving: reading the road ahead, keeping space around you and planning for other drivers' mistakes.
- Refresher courses: for licence holders who want to rebuild confidence.
- Test preparation: practising the skills the examiner looks for, and the area around your test centre.

How lessons fit into your Queensland licence
If you're under 25, you need 100 hours of supervised driving in your learner logbook before your practical test, including 10 hours at night. Time with an accredited driver trainer counts triple, up to 10 actual hours. We explain how that works in our guide to the Queensland learner logbook.
