On the day of your Queensland driving test, you'll need the car's registration number, the registered operator's permission to use the car, proof of identity, your current licence and, if it applies to you, a current medical certificate. Arrive 20 minutes early, in a registered, roadworthy car with L plates displayed correctly.
Use this checklist in the days before your test so nothing catches you out.
Two weeks before
- If you're under 25, submit your logbook at least 12 business days before your test. If your logbook requirements aren't met, the test won't go ahead and the fee won't be refunded.
- Sort out the car. Decide whether you're using your own car or hiring one. Easy L offers car hire for the test for an extra $200.
- Book a lesson or two near the test date to polish anything that still feels shaky.
The night before
- Put your ID, licence and any documents in one place.
- Check the route to the test centre and how long it takes, with time to spare.
- If you're using your own car, check the L plates, lights, indicators, tyres, horn and wipers, and that the registration is current.
- Get a good night's sleep. Last-minute cramming of road rules rarely helps.
What to bring
- The registration number of the car you're using
- The registered operator's permission to use the car for the test
- Proof of identity
- Your current Queensland, interstate or overseas licence (with a recognised English translation if required)
- A current medical certificate, if you have a medical condition that may affect safe driving
- Your returning driver certificate, if that applies to you
On the day
- Eat something and allow plenty of time. Rushing adds stress.
- Arrive 20 minutes early and register with a customer service officer inside the centre.
- Turn off your phone before the test starts.
- Adjust your seat and mirrors before you move off.
- Remember your head checks. Look over your shoulder even if the car has blind-spot mirrors, and look around you when reversing even if it has a camera.
- Breathe. If you make a small mistake, let it go and focus on the next part of the drive.
After the test
The examiner will go through your result at the end. If you pass, take your L plates off before you leave and put your P plates on. If you don't pass this time, make sure you understand what went wrong, practise that, and book again. Our guide to what to expect in the driving test covers both outcomes.
